WHAT IS MUSIC TOGETHER ?

Interactive music classes for children from birth to age 8

Children all over the world are finding the rhythm and singing on pitch to the tune of Music Together! Since 1987, this research-based curriculum for young children has brought joy into the homes of millions of families. Music Together North Shore offers both Mixed Ages, for children ages 0-5 and an adult and Rhythm Kids, for children ages 4-8 with or without an adult.  The classes are hands-on, high energy and FUN, with a focus on helping children fully appreciate music, repeat pitch, find rhythm and grow in creativity and confidence! This basic level of music competence is the springboard for success in future formal musical instruction. Will your child leave Music Together with the skills to pick up a new instrument and play? Nope. This is not a traditional instrumental music lesson. But will your child learn to love music of all kinds, learn to move and shake and express him/herself through music - and on pitch? You bet! And parents/caregivers will have a blast, engaging with your littles in new and creative musical play. Best of all, the fun continues at home, as students are given the classroom music (via C.D. or download) and know-how to integrate what you’ve learned into every day life.

Outside of the Classroom

Class Description

Each participating family will receive a C.D. and songbook for use at home, access to the full Music Together Hello Everybody App, and a code to download the songs from class. Bringing Music Together into the home not only continues the learning outside of the classroom, but opens up new approaches to simple (or challenging!) home tasks. It’s amazing how a simple, “Choo Choo!” can get your child to run to the door when it’s time to leave! Not sure what this means? You’ll have to take the class!

You're Not Alone

And perhaps just as important as the educational benefits of Music Together, are the social benefits. Music Together is a great way to meet like-minded families who can become your support system as your children grow together. During our 45 minutes together each week, parents/caregivers are busy leading by example for their children. But once you have been crawling around acting silly with a group of grown-ups, it’s hard not to make friends. Raising children is hard work – especially when you’re new, and haven’t developed “your village.” While you’re crawling around in class, or gracefully swaying your scarf through the air, look around: These are your people. Grab a coffee at The Corner Bakery after class and get to know your community.

Kristen Fischer is a Communications and Theatre graduate of Marquette University, with a Master’s Certificate in Leadership.  For ten years, she served as a nonprofit administrator by day and musical theatre actress by night. Performing at Milwaukee's Boulevard Theatre, Skylight Musical Theatre, and In Tandem Theatre led to a recurring role in A Cudahy Caroler Christmas. She played Nellie Kaputish, the Water Ski Queen, in over 225 performances over the course of 5 years at Vogel Hall at the Marcus Center for Performing Arts.  After starting a family, Kristen began a new journey that merged her love of performing and her passion for building a community for young families.  In January of  2017, she began Music Together North Shore, providing early childhood music education to hundreds of children each year.  Just as important as building a musical foundation within all her students is her desire to bring people together through the power of making music together.   She is also the Director of the Children's Creator Choir and the Music Director for The Creator Collaborative Studio, and is the Music Teacher at Community Preschool of Whitefish Bay.

About Ms. Karen
Music Together North Shore Teacher

Karen Gersch brings decades of professional dance and performance experience to the team. Born in a small town outside of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Karen attended a wonderful studio that nurtured her early love for dance. From there, she received scholarships to dance studios in Chicago and then to the EDGE Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles. Her first professional job as a singer and dancer at an amusement park in Japan launched an impressive career that included performing with Holland America Cruise Ships and in musical theater in the LA area and in Santa Barbara (The Will Rogers Follies, 42nd Street, Cabaret, Camelot, Brigadoon). Dancing in “Animazement” in Disneyland was a highlight of Karen’s performance career. Karen then spent two years as a dance agent and also choreographed and staged shows for Holland America. An avid Packers fan, Karen lives in Whitefish Bay with her husband and twin girls.  She has been teaching dance at The Creator Collaborative Studio for the past two years and serves as a choreographer for the studio's musical productions.

Karen successfully completed her Music Together training in the Fall of 2023.  Karen LOVES working with young children and helping bring out their natural musical abilities!

Testimonials

Ms Kristen does an amazing job each and every class. She keeps it fresh, fun and all the kids adore her. The songs are easy to learn and my little one loves singing them over and over. Great class for kiddos - highly recommend.

These classes have been great for both my four-year-old and my two-year-old. My two-year-old has a pretty significant speech delay and the music seems to help him communicate verbally; he sings along to the music in the car, too. And they both love the dancing and the instruments.

Kristen leads an amazing interactive music class perfect for little ones of all ages. My 2 and 4 year old sons love going and are super bummed when it's over! There are quite a few infants in the class and older kids who have just as much fun!
